Great Auks were mysterious, statuesque seabirds that lived in the frozen northern seas of Iceland. They were hunted by sailors for food, but it was also believed they had supernatural powers. As a result, thousands of Great Auks were killed as witches to ward off Atlantic storms. Great Auks were made extinct by humans in July 1844. They paired for life and the men who killed the last breeding pair and smashed their eggs knew that these were the last birds in existence.

Written by Matthew Sweetapple and Pete Weitz, ‘A Dream Too Far (The Song of the Great Auk)’ is released on the 178th anniversary of the extinction of the Great Auk. It is a new version of the track that appears on Lost on Infinity audiobook.
