A Dream too Far (The Song of the Great Auk).

Great Auks were made extinct by humans on 3rd July 1844. So this is a sad anniversary.

Great Auks were mysterious, statuesque sea birds that lived in the frozen northern seas of Iceland.

Great Auks were hunted by sailors for food, but they were also feared as it was believed the birds had supernatural powers.

Many Great Auks were killed as witches to ward off Atlantic storms.

The men who killed the last breeding pair knew that these were the last two birds in existence.

Great Auks paired for life.

And so, in our story, the very last Great Auk now lives, lost on Infinity, singing her song and destined to yearn for eternity for her true love…
